Les Reds ont arraché la qualification en Turquie, contre Trabzonspor (1-2), tandis que les Piémontais sont venus à bout de Sturm Graz (1-0). Manchester City, avec Vieira titulaire, a validé son billet face à Timisoara (2-0), contrairement à Aston Villa, battu sur son terrain par le Rapid de Vienne (2-2 au retour). Les Turcs du Galatasaray et de Fenerbahçe (avec Niang titulaire) sont respectivement sortis par les Ukrainiens de Karpaty et le PAOK Salonique.
